I signed up for a 3 month trial with XM. I didn't give them a credit card number so I figured that they would call me at the end of the trial to get me to sign up. Well, I thought the XM quality was far poorer than my 192kps VBR MP3 collection. The hip hop stations kept playing the same overplayed radio songs and even more crunk that I was trying to avoid by staying off FM.
Anyhow I stopped listening to XM after the 3 months and now I have a bill that is billing me for 3 months after. I ignored the first bill, and they sent a second saying they'd refer me to collections if I didn't pay.
I never signed an agreement, I just requested a free 3 month trial over the phone. They have never called me since.
Do I have to pay to avoid a mark on my perfect credit?

When it all comes to a stop, you "may" have to, but if you did not sign anything, they might not have a legal leg to stand on but they can and will screw up your credit rating, almost forcing you to "pay them to go away".

Call them. go through the phone hoops of waiting for someone to speak to. don't get emotional, talk to a manager and put out the facts.

I think the lesson learned here is never ignore a bill.

Everything sent ot collections hurts your credit. I would call the company ASAP and maybe even think about a lawyer considering it seems as though you never signed up. Check the small print when you did sign up-- who knows what that said. Good luck, those things are so annoying. Sounds like AOL. Yuck!

Once you are sent to a collection agency it will effect your credit in a bad way! Fix it ASAP. There are ways to deny a collections claim. But do something keep in mind collection agencies can charge interest. You don't want the debit real or imagined to keep adding up.

i'M SURE THEY HAVE A THING WHERE-UNLESS YOU CANCEL YOU'LL BE CHARGED AFTER THE TRIAL PERIOD!

best bet is to talk with the company and see what can be done!
ignoring it just makes matters worse.

you might have to pay--but see what you can do with them 1st
