I have a lot of knowledge when it comes to computers. I know a lot about Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook, Internet Explorer, how to file. I can type 75-80 words per minute, my data entry skills are about 12,000 ksph, which I was told by a staffing agency that is exceptional and they only require most people to get between 6 and 7 thousand for data entry. I have even won awards at a vocational school for a competition at the regional and state level in Keyboarding Production. I include all of that information in my resume and cover letters. Only problem is I dont have any real experience. I just have my knowledge and skills and the only kind of jobs I've ever had is like KFC, Wendy's, BP and Ace Hardware.

What can I do to make myself stand out so I can acquire a type of job like that? I feel like I've sent out so many resumes for a clerical type position, but have yet to be accepted for an offer or even an interview. I think I'm qualified with my skills.

As far as my age goes, I am 21 (22 in October), and they definitely can't see through my appearance through a resume or cover letter, considering out of all the resumes I've sent out, I've not once even got an offer for an interview.

And I've went through a few staffing agencies and some of them usually never get any jobs that match my criteria. Sometimes they want people with experience. I did get my resume sent it for a data entry job through an agency, but I'm not sure what happened with that.

And my resume is already posted on the popular job boards such as Monster, Careerbuilder and Hot Jobs.

Inivest in a really *really* sharp interview suit, one that is really well-made and *expensive*, and start aiming higher.

What you are looking for is an entry-level Administrative position that has the clerical duties on the side. Seriously. Straight up clerical work is harder to find because Temp Agencies are eating the market alive and driving both wages and job security down so low that most folks *won't hire* no matter how talented the prospect is....I learned that the hard way.

I also learned the hard way that in some offices, Experience equals kissingass. Pardon me if that is hard to read, you know how Yahoo is. But yeah, there are some places where you just *will not* be taken seriously or allowed to get a foot in the door unless you all but come in to the application process on your knees....

So it might also help to network more, contact more folks in jobs like what you are looking for--entry level Administrative with the clerical on the *side*, remember that, everyone could use a really *sharp* and competent assistant, contact more folks and find out if there are any places around that *have* some integrity left and aren't all about pecking orders and psycho-butt-munching. If you have to....stay in touch with folks who are stuck using the Temporary Agencies, use what they know as people at the *bottom of the food chain* to find out which prospective employers are worth a resume and which ones aren't.

I hope this works for you....it sure didn't work for me but then again I came to the game late in life with fewer skills than what you have. Good luck to you and if you find any extra jobs, let us know!

Go with the staffing agency - with your skills they can easily get you positions, and even temporary jobs will give you experience you need. You might even get permanent offers!

good luck

Start your own business. A lot of people will pay you good money to come to them and either teach them about the computer or help work out the kinks. You can get free business cards on-line. Start telling everyone you know this is what you do.

in every state the job market is hard to get hired, i suggest you go to a temp agency and sign up with them for now, work for them at least six months , they will send you out ... do a good job and you might get attention from the companies you work for and they may offer you a job.........if this does not work go to a regular agency and [after 6 months with temp agency] you have your reference and experience. they will place you in a good job

why not start at a temp agency...they can start placing you in temporary office jobs and you can use those jobs to gain more experience and add to your resume, and eventually get a full time gig.
