in 1850 Texas was even larger than today. It extended into other present day states. There was unclaimed territory to the west and north . Eventually, Oklahoma Territory which was a huge set of reservations for the exiled native Americans was made a state in 1907 and New Mexico and Arizona in 1920. These borders were discussed, argued and filibustered in Washington, D.C. by cattle barons, land speculators, lobbyists, politicians, and Presidents throughout the years.
