1992 ford taurus front wheel drive,3.8 232 v-6 starts and runs fine put in gear it sometimes shimmers then goes 1,2,not third,I know its shifting gears by the sound of the rpms, its a automatic, it goes about 100 feet theen it feels like its in neutral!! turn the car off ,put in drive it goes about 100 feet no go... I think its a sensor are a selonoid I know a lot but first front wheel drive my question also where is it located or should I replace the trans..if so is it a transaxle or a halfshaft?? thank you!!

Sounds like a bad roller clutch (one way clutch) in the 3,4 shift gearset. It is a transaxle with 2 half shafts. Take it to the shop.

Sounds like a torque converter flutter. Do you hear it wining when you take off. If you do then get ready to replace you transmission because if the torque converter doesn't shell first the pump will go out.

Your transmission is failing. It is on its last leg. That AXOD is a famous Ford weak link.
Repair shop time.

these cars were noted for tranny problems to save the hassel just replce your tranny or better yet replce the car good luck
