When someone close to you, or even a stranger is in pain can you feel it deep down, like that person is reaching out for help without them knowing it? Do you feel their pain?

I have always had the ability to read people. I don't consider it a psychic ability, but I do consider it and gift and a talent. I can tell when someone is upset or sad, or just dying to get something out. It's a combination of reading body language, past experience with that person or other people, and a couple other things.
See, people--no matter how hard they try and hide their feelings--are open books if you now how to read them. I don't feel the person's pain, and I refuse to give sympathy. Instead, I choose to empathize. Sympathy is pity, and people who are in genuine emotional pain do not want to be pitied.
If there are things that I've experienced that are similar to what they're going through, I'm able to relate better to their feelings.

I have been able to literally feel what others feel deep down, just not at the same level they feel it. It is possible though, if you really want to feel what others feel, just put your self in their position completely (like their morals, their personality, and how soft or hard they are emotionally). I believe that one is able to feel another person's negative or positive energy and that can often lead to an understanding and sympathy for a complete stranger. I'm not a New age person or whatever, but we are all made of energy (fact) and our energy does change consistency or intensity when we are stressed (that's why animals can sense fear and excitement).

Sometimes, but only in a couple instances. I walked by this guy once, didn't look up, but turned around after feeling an eerie sense of danger and evil. Hard to explain, but I just got goose bumps, felt fear and danger, really. Another time, same thing, driving past a guy in a car.

In other cases, I think the gestures or facial expressions made me feel what I gauged they might be feeling.

I've assumed you're not just asking about empathy here...

Yes very much. My best friends little sister was beat by her mother infront of me and I started to cry as if I was being beaten.
I felt the pain for her.

Well not actually: I believe that "feeling one's pain" is the same as saying 'At this moment, I am here for you."

That is what I would mean by saying it, anyway.

Nope. Sympathy, yes. Empathy, only after a great deal of effort.

Best wishes and God bless.
