Could you hug one of them or would they try to bite you?

I'm fairly sure they would either run away from you or attack you if you tried to hug a wild penguin. Think of it this way: You are this huge thing coming towards them, most likley making strange noises. They have never seen anythign like you or heard th enoises you are making before. They have no idea what you are, but you are bigger than they are and coming rather quickly. It would really be in their best interest to get away as auickly as possible, because for all they know, you might want to eat them.

A penguin in a zoo might be slightly nicer about it, but even still, they are wild animals with wild animal instincts. They might know their trainers/keepers, but I doubt they'd like a stranger too much.

But I don't blame you for wanting to hug a penguin either. They are adorable and hilarious.

I think if you walked up to a penguin in Antarctica it would probably attack you or at least run from you. But, if you are talking about ones at the zoo, they might be more friendly since they are around people and have interactions with the zoo keepers.

They are friendly only with each other. It's highly recommended that you leave the wild penguins alone. They don't care much for people. They would attempt to peck at you & bite you if you threaten them with your presence &/or attempt to touch them.

No wild animals are really friendly on mans terms. They see unfamiliar things or people as possible predators.
