If your child is "up-to-date" (received all his immunizations up till the start of grade school)- then in Fall 2006, all they will need is one vaccination- the ADACEL which is a combination of Tetanus, Diptheria and Pertussis -"whooping cough". This replaced the old "TD" which did not have the "whooping cough component".(unless they received the TD last year at age 11)

There is some debate about the "Meningitis Vaccine"- with
the current shortage it is not recommended until the child reaches 14-15 (and some Dr's aren't even giving it until college)

There is a 'new vaccine that just got FDA approval the "Guardacel" which protects against HPV- (human papilloma Virus) - the organism that causes cervical cancer/ warts in women. three doses will be recommended for girls ages 9-12.
(I will be recommending it but it is not currently necessary for school ).

Your child should have received the Hepatitis Vaccine when they were an infant.

SO to answer the question-- "one" is probably necessary for NY state.( some state's vary in thier requirements for school also)

If you IM me your child's immunization record, I could tell you exactly

we had a similar incident in the st louis area. my sister and b.i.l. were cops, so i have often heard the law enforcement side of the story. when a fugitive is running, you have to stop them. now, some of cops around here couldn't run down a 2 year old on a trike, they're so out of shape; but then there's all the equipment they have to carry. even a fit guy couldn't run down a fast kid with kevlar vest and all of that paraphernalia. so, they shoot. the thing is, they don't know that the kid is unarmed in the heat of the situation. i don't want to defend bad cops, tho. i've heard plenty say they always use lethal force because if the 'perp' survies, there's going to be litigation. some of the worst racists i've known have been cops. i've heard them brag about some of the downright mean things they've done to people. i've heard the other side, too. blacks especially have no reason to trust cops, and more often than not, the best option is to run and hope they miss. cases like this are only what manages to reach the media. black friends have told me that police abuse in poor neighborhoods is rampant. some fear the police more than they fear gangs. it's a sad situation, and there's no easy answer. there's a deeply-rooted history of mistrust on both sides.
