Well india was always considered the richest jewel in the crown Certainly the east india company traded beneficially in spices However india was a land of many cultures,languages,religions and states.Ruled by rajahs.Britain united them as one country.Britain gave them 3 of thier greatest assets .Language,railways and tea The british smuggled the tea out of china,and found the best places to grow it

1. They took the cotton from India for their cloth mills in Manchester and sold the cloth back in india.
2. They took the timber from India for their shipyards in England.
3. They intentionally did not start education in the Punjab so that they would get recruits for their Army.
These are just some of the examples.

No, there was never a loot of India. Britishers had left with so much in the way of developed infrastrucures that any earnings they had done by way or forced trade from India was duly repaid by virtue of infrastructure development. Had they left early, we would have been still an underdeveloped country.
