I'm looking for a new doctor and I'm debating b/t chosing either Family Practice or Internal Medicine.

I'm a healthy 22 year old girl. Are there pros or cons to either one?

Try a gynecologist. They frequently are willing to serve as your primary care Dr.

The issue you run into is that the number of doctors doing Family Practice is dwindling. You are more likely to be able to get into see an Internal Medicine doctor, and they are just as capable at providing the same care as a Family Practice physician.

Internal Medicine is a specialized field and you generally don't see one of these physicians unless you are having more serious problems. Since you are young and healthy go to family practice they will refer you should the need arise.

You are young enough to go to a family practioner. Internal Medicine is more for older adults with many medical complications. IM is more for the Middle age and up. Family practice and a separate OB/GYN and you'll be good to go.

A family doc wil do everything. From pap to cold. An internal Med doc is good if you have a on going illness that is needing monitoring. You can go to either. Just go to a good one

If you are just looking for a general practitioner for things like general sickness and regular check ups, then just go to a family practice.

Family Practice. They seem more real and down to earth. I have a family so we all see the same FP and she's wonderful. They just seem to be more personable.

They are very similar. Family practice is more general and Internist studies more specific diseases.
