Everyone says that your head will explode if you're in outer space, as depicted in many cartoons. Is this true? And if it is, why?

Yes, its true. Thats because Space is like a Vacum. Here on earth we have Oxygen and its all over place. And in Physics, it states that molecules want to be as far apart from each other as possible. so In Space, because there is so much of nothingness, no oxygen or anything, the atoms in our head want to be free of each other and into all the empty space. so you explode. But your upper Torso is likely to go first as it has more Gas in it.
