If you feel that you will not go through withdrawal symptoms, stop as soon as you can. If you think you might have a problem see your doctor, don't be embarrassed and make a plan for weaning off. Cold turkey is dangerous and no longer a smart option with all the resources we have today.

Once your off, eat right, take a great multivitamin and excersise no matter how much it sucks almost every day. I've been through your dilemma and slleping great since I took this advice. Don't drink alcohol to sllep, I used to do this and it only turns to sugar and keeps you up all night!

Good Luck!

A lot of times the inability to sleep is a symptom of clinical depression. Check out other depression symptoms on some depression web site. Depression doesn't always "feel" like depression. If some of the symptoms sound familiar you might want to talk to your doctor about going on an antidepressant. By the way, how old are you? Are you male or female? What is your job life like? Are you taking prescription sleeping pills or just the over-the-counter stuff?

I had the same problem. I have tried 2 things that have worked great for me. At night 30-40 minutes before bedtime drink a cup of tea, it's called sleepy time, made by celestial seasonings. It works, because I get a good night sleep only that I have weird crazy dreams, but I get a good nights rest. You can get them at Target or Ralph's. The second one is homeopathic non-addicting(herbal) pills called Calms Forte made by hylands, I buy these at CVS Pharmacy. If you are stressed out I recommend these. Check out the website at www.hylands.com for product info.
SWEET DREAMS!!!

Go to a neurologist that specializes in sleep disorders. They are all over the place these days. They will do some tests on you for sleep tests... that should help figure out exactly what the problem is, and they will treat you based on the results.

Use the bedroom for only sleeping (and sex of course). So don't be watching television or doing work. Make the room dark (I use a sleep mask sometimes) and make it bright in the morning. Don't vary your sleep schedule even during the weekend or you'll disrupt it more. Lay off the sleeping pills though!

Try aromatherpy: lavender scent or a spray of lavender in your pillow... it's so relaxing! Or a lukewarm bath before going to sleep plus hot milk. Or try drinking reliv products, see www.reliv.com It's really good for sleeping disorders, our whole family use that.

Ya gotta wean yourself off them. I assmue you're using something like Ambien or one of it's similar type companions. If you simply can't wean yourself off them, you may have to use Valium as a crossover drug to wean from. More information is at www.benzoisland.org.

There is also a strong correlation between long-term sleeping pill use and depression as well as Irritable Bowel Syndrome (again, assuming the drug is Ambien or one of its relatives)

You might wanna see a doctor or counselor. You can try something non addictive and herbal to help you sleep - Herbalife has a product called "Sleep Now" - it's non addictive and it really works.

switch over to warm milk before bedtime. Don't exercise, read or watch tv before going to bed. Say your prayers before going to sleep, and relax your body sarting at your feet and tell each part to relax and sleep. You could also try subliminal suggestion and hypnosis sleep tapes.

Try getting something less chemical from your local health store. Why are you not sleeping, are you stressing about anything in particular?
