you hold the bag under your left arm with the bass drone(the long one)next to your ear,then blow in the blowpipe and play the notes on the chanter.when moving the pipes you hold the bass drone (the long one ),the blowpipe and the chanter

The pipes are typically held with the bag under the left arm. (Though a few left-handed pipers play with the pipes under their right arm.) The bass drone (the longest) is located to left your left ear, the blowpipe terminates in your mouth, and the chanter (melody pipe) hangs at the front of the bag and is played with the fingers. The right hand is usually on the top part of the chanter, leaving the left to cover the holes in bottom part of the chanter.
