can not go wrong checking out the government sites to begin with but this is the height of the season so call ahead. you are in a great place but the time is very limited so keep your expectations low. get out there there are local parks as well but the same restrictions apply.

A great place to go camping in Pennsylvania is at Bear Run Campground in Portersville located in Butler County, about a 40 minute drive from Pittsburgh. It's right beside Moraine State Park, and just next to the lake. 60 acres of rolling farmland & wooded countryside are right beside the campsite. It's a trailer and cabin campsite. AAA approved.

It's a very clean campground. Immaculate condition. We stayed there back in 2004 and it was gorgeous, one of the best campsites I've ever been to.

The campground features:
Heated Pool
Fishing Lake
Rental Canoes
Events Calendar
Wi-Fi High-Speed Internet Service
Horse Stable
Recreation Hall
Playground
Volleyball
Horseshoes
Softball Field

A Deluxe "Self Contained" Log Cabin can be rented for a whole week (7 days) for $599. Considering you pay that for just 3 nights at some places, it's a pretty good deal. If you don't want to stay a whole week the deluxe cabin goes for $109 a night. There is also the Appalachian Cabin which is $69 a night or $399 for a full week. Deluxe sleeps 7, Appalachian sleeps 4.

The Deluxe "Self Contained" Log Cabin features:
-Kitchenette
-Cookware - Dishes Provided
-Refrigerators/Microwaves
-Living/Dining Areas
-Restrooms/Showers
-Sleeps 7
-Full-Sized and Single Bunks
-Loft Areas

All of the other Cabins feature basically about the same, but sleep up to 4 people only.
Cabins are very clean and the beds are very comfortable.

It's a great place for couples or families. They have activies during all operational months. You can rent a canoe for $18.00 for up to 5 hours, and then $9.00 for each extra hour.

The Main Campsite website is:

Be sure to look at the photos of the surrounding area. Beautiful!

For beginners, I would suggest your own backyard for starters. If you have been camping before, try any wooded area. Just make sure that you are allowed to go camping on the premises first. I would also suggest that you go camping with one of your friends(a smart person would be my first choice!).
