I have a rented cable modem with one ethernet connector and one USB connector. Someone gave me a wireless router that has only ethernet connectors. Can I connect the modem to my main PC via the USB or do I have to use the ethernet, because if I do, I can't use the router. I would just try it, the the router has a giant sticker that says don't connect until you walk through the installation disk. Oh, and that program says it can't detect an internet connection, but here I am on Yahoo, so that works. Obviously I have two seperate issues.

Forget about the USB....Connect ur modem to the WAN or Internet section of Router. Initially connect a PC with a ethernet cable directly to the router till u finish configuring the router. Then go ahead and open the command prompt and type in IPCONFIG...and note down the default gateway... Type in the default gateway address in the address bar of IE...and it will give u access to the router. Now just go ahead and configure the router manually and THROW THOSE JUNK CD'S....

Everything has to go through the home router, forget aboout having that USB port, it was a convenience now it confuses you, there is no need for software installation for either cable or ADSL. The necessary configuration utility already on. Think of those CD plates as free Frisbees.
