I don't like questions asking who the "greatest" or "best" is because it's entirely subjective. I think, historically, the top two are LL Cool J and the Beastie Boys, based solely on longevity. In this business, especially today, artists/groups have a very short shelf life. These two have been successful for over two decades.

Eminem. Number one he is white! So, that in itself was kind of random, since most rappers are black. Number two he is a fu ck en genius, the spin off some of his words not to mention the vocabulary he uses is sensational! I mean some rap songs aren't nearly as intellectually written, he is a literary genius.

It depends on what your lookin' for when you say the GREATEST. If it's consistency ,then, Jay-z would be your answer, but your looking for the person with Great lyrical content and influenced half of the people whom we consider "Great" , then your lookin' for the "18th letter"........Rakim. He influenced alot of rappers that are hot today, and exemplifies True Hip Hop. ALso, try KRS- one, and Big Daddy KAne.
