Pluto was just demoted to a "dwarf planet" this week & shoved aside for some "new planets". Not a good week for the old Plu.

I don't think it is.

The reaction to this reclassification is almost as interesting as the reasons for the change in the way we name and see the "dwarf planet."

I understand that Pluto's size, shape, and orbit, among other things, I think I recall icy composition, had always troubled astronomers.

Don't you worry none about Pluto. There are wonders to come. I'm excited about the enhanced understanding of our solar system and the discernment between planets and "dwarf planets"

Then we have this whole Astronomical Union organization--International Astronomical Union (IAU) I think astronomy might be coming into a spotlight of its own. There may be wonderful funding opportunities for this. Contact your elected representatives, and support funding for space exploration and astronomy.

Sorry, but since the definition of "planet" is arbitary anyway, there is no reason historical significance should not have been taken into consideration.

Join me in the revolt against the self appointed authorities of language and keep calling Pluto a planet.

I don't think so. Pluto is very small and fits the category of Dwarf Planet very well. At least one asteroid fits as well (Ceres) and sooner or later they'll have to realize that our moon (which actually orbits the sun, not the earth...it's orbit is perturbed by the earth) is a planet as well.
