Take off the battery cover, take out the battery and you will see a sticker with 2 barcodes on it. The serial number fot the phone is the 15 digit IMEI number. Or you can just dial *#06# from the phone.

Well I might offer a different perspective. 1) How do you know the owner can check his voice mail messages from an outside line? I know I cannot on my cell phone, som if you left me a message I could not retrive it. 2) What have you done to attempt in locating the owner? Have you posted FOUND CELL PHONE signs somewhere within your apartment complex? Have you posted a FOUND ad in your local paper? Most FOUND ads are free of charge. Have you checked your local Craigslist? Sometimes people do use that forum as a lost & found. Have you returned the phone to the cell phone provider? They can track the phone to the owner. Does your local police have a lost & found? Have you called people in the address book in an attempt to find out the owner of the phone? I'm sorry to say this in a way that you may perceive as rude, but it sounds like you just want to make a quick buck off of someone else's bad luck. If you are good-hearted honest person, you might try a little extra effort to reunite the phone with the owner. You might be surprised if they offer a handsome reward. Good luck in your decision.

Open the battery compartment, take out the battery, and the serial number should be there.

It shoulda been on the box or atleast on a little sticker on the phone (that's where mine was) If you don't have either, I think you can call your verison store or agent and they can help you.
