I am 52, have a degree (which at present am not using) and am interested in going back to school...again.

I have found that thru the years, my interests have changed. I used to teach, but realized it wasn't really for me. Now I work at a computer all day and am bored to tears.

I would like to become a vet.

However....

I am not only a bit older then the average student (ok, a lot older) but I have a real hard time with science.

I love animals tho and feell that IF i got thru school, I would be able to do a lot of good.

More questions---How old were you when you went back? What was your course of study? How did you combine work AND school and still stay successful?

Thank you for respondiing.

I feel we should follow our hearts and our dreams. Sometimes they are one and the same. You are never to old to go back to school. There are people in their 80's and 90's getting degrees.
Yes, I do know people who have done it. How determined are you ? You are the only one that can prevent you from stepping out on faith. The brain is like any other muscle, it needs to be exercised. Go for it !

I am 30 yrs old and I went to college for a semester when I graduated in 94. At the time i had a newborn child and just couln't do it. I eventually went back again in 2002 for my associates in Communications and finished 1 year. All while working and raising my child alone. (Unfortunately I wasn't eligible for financial aide and couldn't finish) I am planning to go back in spring to finish my degree. The only thing I can tell you is that it takes financial aide, time and preserveance. I also found that the younger students were very receptive to my being older and helped me without making feel OLD! I think that it is wonderful you want to go back and wish you well!! Also, as far as science is concerned there are plenty of tutoring programs available through colleges and online as well! Have a great day1 Tru

I went back to college, when I was 24....this was the third time that I went to school. I was in the business world for several years and had moved up to management..I decided that 90 hours a week and getting paid salary was not my bag...besides I missed the first 5 years of my son's life, because I was always on the road.

I was known as 'grandpa' by the kids and with two kids and a wife already, it was really hard for me to go back to school to get my degree in education....however, I succeeded and I have been teaching now for 14 years.....I worked overnights at a local gas station as a clerk and studied in my down times. It wasn't easy, but it was truly worth it.

I was 28 when i went to college and all the way thru an M.A. in counseling psychology.

I think if science is hard for you, it would be better to pick something else to study. What about being an animal groomer or trainer. or an animal rights worker?
I worked at a temp service so I took off exam weeks and any other time I needed if you do compiter work this would probably work for you

Went back at 30 for a career change. Very hard at the time to juggle everything but very glad I did it. Discipline's the answer. Set aside 8 hours to study, spend 8 hours studying. Don't worry about the kids, bills, etc, etc...

52 is not old at all to be in college. It is the norm now to see students of all ages!

Good luck!

I am 35 and went back to school in January. Just do it. Sounds too simple, but you will find that maybe your love of animals won't have to be focused into being a vet. The education could lead to a career in that field (such as a surgical assistant or attending animal nurse/technician). I go to the University of Phoenix one night a week, after work, and my parents and sister watch my sons. I watch my nephews on the weekend in exchange and save money on daycare. I study Business management.

I am 37 with a 7 month old son and have started a new course study, (logistical management)
I would say that if you wish to be a vet, Go for it as long as you are able to keep a roof and food during the transition.

Good Luck :)

I went to college after high school, but then had the op to leave the state for a while....so I took the op...never went back to home state....but in 2000 I went back to college.. was older than most of the kids in there but...

I absolutely loved it! I felt proud of myself too.

One of the best decisions I've made...

you should go for it..you will not regret it..it is great!!!

best of luck to you...
