Not really. It's different democracy. You could consider America the most powerful country in the world. But the Roman empire made less mistakes in my opinion. Rome has seen much better leaders than Bush.

We don't have control over the world economy.. When a country operates on a deficit, which is what we are doing, it means that we are borrowing money from other countries to operate. Currently, we are in tremendous debt to China. I think at this point, we are morally bankrupt as well economically bankrupt. If we're still a major world power in the next five years, it will surprise me. We've ignored our schools and have a penchant for worshiping people who have flaunted the law. Americans spend more time following the lives of sport figures and Hollywood celebrities than they do educating themselves about what the issues are in Washington. So yes, we are like the Roman Empire--on the verge of collapse. We are most certainly not on the verge of conquering the world, dear. We are in a very dangerous economic condition, and to make matters worse, world opinion is not with us. We have succeeded in alienating our allies. A person cannot survive with empty pockets and no friends and neither can a country.

Absolutely not. America is on the decline and consuming capital at an increasing rate. Ever since the U.S. heavy industry and manufacturing concerns moved out (export heavy things), we have been importing more and more which means sending money overseas. That's why China is such a fat cat these days. If the rest of the world doesn't wake up and smell the coffee in the next decade or two, we'll all be speaking chinese.

England use to be the super power, but when they lost their manufacturing base they also lost their standing, their manufacturing and industrial industries came to America, and we took off and grew as a powerful country , now ours is being shiped to china, India and Mexico, also we are losing our idenity the people that are coming now do not want to assimilate into our society, they don't want to learn English or our customs, So we will fall from within.

Uh... you DO know about the enormous trade deficit we have, right? I think our time as Rome, if we were ever that, had passed, and we are headed downhill from here unless we start producing more again, and stop importing more than we are exporting. Otherwise, we will be Spain in the 16th century very shortly.
