I am very sorry I guess I didn't word it right this is not a toy car in fact its called a utility truck I use it around the property to haul things around. My husband passed away and my 36 yr. old son was trying to help me get things fixed. Thank you all for your answers

Do not use the controls until you can go to the local auto parts store and buy a spray can of electrical contact cleaner. Ask the person at the counter for it, they will know what you are talking about. An oily substance is not to be used for electrical parts. Clean it well with the spray contact cleaner, which is basically denatured alcohol. Let it dry well before using again. It should not take long, the contact cleaner evaporates quickly, but make sure you get rid of the oily residue. Take the batteries out and use it liberally, it will not cause harm to the electronics if you let dry completely before using again.

Yes it will ruin the gears let the wd-40 dry up a little bit before you put it into gear again you may have sprayed to much lubricant on it!

as an electrician..i will tell you this...WD40 conducts electricity...the sparks you see are signs of a direct short.... There are sets of contacts in the mechanism that are being shorted out...if they continue to spark, carbon will build up making the contacts loose contact with the lever... basically stopping the function of the lever.... You need to get it all cleaned out and then dried out with a spray on contact cleaner....
