Is it time for rich countries to realise the folly of defending a way of life that deprives other countries of the basic necessities of life?

Although America and Israel are getting a lot of criticism at the in the media. Many countries tend to go over the top in trying to defend a way of live that is decadent - thats why there is a terrorist problem

Fact: 9/10 of the Worlds wealth belongs to 1/10 of the worlds population

Are u willing to share and share alike with ur poorer neighbours or would u prefer them to take what they need by force

YES it is time! deffinately! I agree with you very much! I think it is quite disgusting how many people think they have a right to be rich even though they are exploiting constantly, whether directly or indirectly to get hold of the wealth they have. Do they think people in poorer countries dont work hard? or that the citizens of third world countries are stupid? The fact is that they are exploited. People are so blind to things they dont want to see. People dont want to think they are inflictig poverty on so much of the worlds population.

To anybody who reads this: Why do YOU deserve your wealth more than the poverty stricken masses?

Man, I hear where you're coming from... but the machine is pretty solid now, things have moved on. The 'rich countries', ie, the countries we live in, are going to continue with the agenda they always have, staying top dog. The dictatorships are there for a reason, to keep the other states down. They didn't appear by magic, they were put into place by... our peace loving leaders. They are compradors Our poorer neighbours, the majority of the people over there who aren't getting a cut, can't come and 'take what they need by force', if nothing else they have no chance to get organised- any of them with any sense are working for the patsies, because that's where the good living is- or, moving to the West and getting away from it all.

Of course, you can agitate, but I can't see the kind of turnabout you seem to be talking about coming up all of a sudden because of the elites get a guilty conscience. They believe they are right so strongly. Look at what has been already done for short term profit! This behaviour will continue.

My take on it- be as good as you can to the people around you, and participate politically where it seems there is a positive movement. If there is any hope at all, it's for slow change, not a sudden blast off. Sorry if that sounds defeatist ;)

Did you know that 82% of statistics are made up right there on the spot? ...... The worlds monetary wealth belongs to those industrialized nations that are run by peace loving people who have the utmost respect for the sanctity of life. Many countries keep there people in squall er to maintain power at the top of the government IE dictatorship and/or socialist. When the rest of the world tries to share their wealth by way of financial aid it is often intercepted and kept by those same government officials..... It ain't our fault...blame it on the evil dictators around the world who keep these poor people poor. The only way to help them is to stomp out dictators, socialists and liberals and replace them with Democracy and Capitalism.

The unequal distribution of resources across countries or within countries is reaching staggering proportions. Probably the last time so much was concentrated in the hands of so few was two centuries or so ago.

The system has means and ways of readjusting itself, either through surges of people whether violent or not, or through less destructive ways as the elite drop a few drumsticks rather than just crumbs off the table for the poor, however the latter only seems to drag the problem out longer.

But I think we have the power to change things ourselves. The type of responses you have received up to now illustrate the type of people there are in the world, the trick is not to let that discourage you.

The power we have is the power of our votes and our spending, especially our spending.

Nowadays the power is concentrated not in the hands of the nobility, nor the politicians, but in the hands of corporations and their leaders. The only way we can talk to them is to stop buying products from corporations that do things we disagree with, and buy from corporations that behave as we'd like them to. Make it a question of profit for the corporation to 'behave', that's the language they understand.

I am probably naive and idealistic, but I do firmly believe the power is in our hands, whether we realise it or not, and whether we decide to use it for the good of everyone or just for our selfish needs is a seperate issue. Most people either do not realise the power in their hands, or use it in a purely selfish way. This need not be the case.

If there are enough people who vote with their dollars and have similar beliefs, then corporations will change their behaviour. If we make enough noise for our representatives to hear by using our votes, that will also affect corporations. For example the mighty oil companies are now more environment conscious because more people are getting so and contracts are given to companies who have sound environmental plans. See the book Collapse by Jared Diamond for a few illustrations.

So, to answer your question, I think I would prefer to share by using my spending and votes to influence corporations. If enough of us do it, the impact will be much greater than if we directly used the funds to share.

The real problem is not really between the rich and poor countries but the fact that the rich countries are controlled by a 10% rich "list" who decide policy and consume 80% of resources.

So, you want us to just hand over a bunch of cash? Most of those poor countries are run by crooked governments, that's why they're poor. Of the governments that are halfway decent, rich countries are outsourcing work to them, thereby improving their standards of living and giving them the opportunity to work their way out of poverty.

We do this at the expense of domestic jobs. What more do you want?

yes, share and share alike

you say you have a real solution? well, we'd all love to see the plans

in other words "how would you go about sharing the wealth?"
the soviet way?
the chinese way?

maybe you would split it up

to defend terrorism because people are poor is just silly

being poor is not a reason to kill someone
not even if they are rich and you are poor

I have a better idea, lets all work hard, lets all produce, lets all eliminate corruption, and lets all get rich

What you have just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent question did you approach anything even close to a question. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having heard it. You are awarded no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Do you want to make $3 a day to be like the poor countries?
If you have access to finances then show your resolve and give most of it to the poor in other countries.
