It doesn't always go by how far you are dilated when we consider active labour.
We look at contraction patterns - are they 4-5 minutes apart, regular, lasting 45 seconds or longer, strong to palpation?
Effacement is also very important - you cervix may be 2cm dilated but your cervix may still be very thick, especially if this is not your first baby. Your cervix need to be atleast 75-80% effaced to be in good labour.
Also the position of the baby's head - measured in stations, is it still very high, or sitting really low?
There are a lot of factors, so relax and enjoy the time your having right now waiting for baby. It all happens so fast, I wish you luck!

4-7 cm is active labor. Do you have any medical conditions, is this your first child, membranes ruptures? if not hang on don't rush to the hospital this is completely normal. The general rule of thumb for heading to the hopital is waiting for contractions that reach a pattern of 5 minutes apart lasting 5 minutes and have been doing so for about an hour. Bottom line share your concers with your doctor. Good luck

at 4 centimeters you are in active labor and at that point can then be admitted to the hospital.
