It's clearly been used as such, but in most cases it's just a story book, and only the learned scholars can interpret god's words to control the masses of the great unwashed.

The Bible is a collection of books written over a period of hundreds of years. So much for the "group".
There has been no proof that God does not exist. A Russian Cosmonot said on a trip to space, "I don't see heaven or God up here..." That was said over 20 years ago, when science had little clue as to the vastness of the unexplored universe...
More will be revealed.
Anyone who says they aren't afraid to die (to go to nothingness or unknown, sounds reasonably arrogant.
Those who believe that the Bible is the inspired word of God, ask God for help to understand what they are reading. If faith helps a person to not be afraid, what's the problem?

Does this mean you believe everything you hear? You'd better be sure of your self. I believe the Bible is the inerrant, infallible, inspired Word of the Living and True God. I believe that Jesus is the Son of God incarnate, and that He left His deity in Heaven to come to this earth to show mankind how much He loves us and wants to have fellowship with Him and how to do that.
My spirit bears witness to this as truth with every breath I take. The moment I confessed Jesus Christ as my Savior my entire being changed. There is no way what I experienced and have been given is a lie. Something so life changing and glorious as this cannot possibly be fantasy or a lie. I dare you to take a chance and seek and ask for yourself. I hope you do. You don't want to take your dying breath a lost sinner bound for eternal torment.

Since you are using the Greek word Bible, I presume you are talking about the so-called New Testament. It was not written so much to scare people, but the selection of included matierial was indeed to prevent chaos and serve a political agenda. Think of it as a very successful attempt at getting the maximum number of people to enter the tent of those particular "barkers".

Well that is quite the conspiracy theory. So Moses and his buddies got together and decided to get every one to behave and so they wrote some book and then got some people to write back up book for the next 2000 years and then they got this guy Jesus to be born and got a bunch of people to write books about him to really back it up. Except they messed up and told people that their sins were forgiven and they don;t have to be afraid of hell or death. Yes I see it all now.

Goodness no - the BIble is a guide book for our lives - even today. Read it for yourself and then you decide. Start in one of the Gospels...Matthew, Mark, Luke or John. If you seek him, you will find him if you seek him with all your heart. Read the WORD yourself and learn.
"All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in rightousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." 2 Timothy 3:16-17. God bless you.

You really shouldn't deny God's existence like that, and you should probably start prayin for forgiveness for what you just said. i gotta question for you. Why would you WANT to go to hell and be burned for an eternity when Heaven is so much nicer? And i am not afraid of death. I can't wait to get to Heaven and spend forever there. How do you explain the dead sea scrolls and Jesus rising from the dead!

I dont' know where you got your information, but we Christians were taught that the apostles that were with Jesus wrote the Bible. The Bible teaches us to be nice to one another and show respect and concern for each other.

A guy a little smarter than me named Seneca once said,
“Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by the rulers as useful.”
