when you are in the military. Why is it then okay to take human life? Shouldn't the commandment be universally obeyed or just when it is convenient?

Why, if you take it upon your own volition to kill, you are a murderer, but when you commit the identical act wearing a uniform you are a hero?

Coragryph and pancakes, I learned the commandment using the word, "kill". Seems that the younger generation has changed a lot of things. And Pancakes, don't pretend to be so wise. Insulting others does not boost people's percetion of you

It is ignored because it is convenient for people to ignore it and instead draw your attention to the other misquoted Bible verses that support their own violent, evil natures. Even more disturbing is the fact that many of these people claim to be Christians.

If it is Biblically acceptable to murder/kill, as many "Christians" claim, how do they then justify that belief in light of the following:

The New Testament clearly documents the occasion where Christ was betrayed in the garden by Judas, who lead the Roman troops to Jesus. One of the disciples then proceeded to cut off the ear of one of the Roman soldiers.

What did Jesus (the Christ whom "Christians" claim to follow) do? He picked up the mans severed ear and healed him. He also admonished his disciples to "turn the other cheek" (albeit on another occasion).

Now in light of this example set by Christ (an example Christians should follow - IF they are truly followers of Christ) ask yourself the following question:

Who Would Jesus Bomb? Who Would Jesus Rape? Who Would Jesus Kill? Would Jesus Lie? Who Would Jesus Blow Up?

Ok, I know the commandment says "thou shalt not murder" but I think I know what you meant. No matter your age, religion, or even whether you have read the bible it is not okay to murder. People just don't have any remorse anymore, they just go around killing people and then go on with their lives. I don't understand how people can be so cold. Don't get me wrong, if I felt threatened by someone, then I would do whatever it took to defend myself but all of those innocent people in Iraq that have been killed, that is just ridiculous, they are people just like you and me.

Well, God passed the commandments to Moses. Right, has God ever killed anyone? No, He takes them home. So lets just say that military people are sending the enemy home, to be with their Allah daddy.
Doesn't Allah daddy tell his followers to kill the infidels?
Whose God are we to believe?

And why is it that we can't have the commandments in a courthouse, because of the seperation of church and state, but we can have chaplins, priests, rabbi's, and imams in the military?
Why? WHY?

Why is the commandment "Thou shalt not commit adultry" ignored?
Why is the commandment"Thou shalt not covet thy neighbors wife" ignored?

Why is the statement "I am not my brothers keeper" ignored?

And besides all the above forementioned crap. If somebody goes into the military, they know they might have to kill someone. It's on their soul, not yours, so go worry about your own soul and quit blaming the military guys and girls for doing their job.

God himself used israel's military to accomplish his will. It's also clear that defending your nation by use of force is not sin, nor is killing in self defense. I believe the word in the fifth commandment is more closely associated with the english equivalent of 'murder', which isn't necessarily the same thing.

Lastly, why don't you just come out and say that you hate the military, completely ignoring the fact that people that want to kill us (Americans) would come in here and do just that, completely disregarding your self-superiority?

Because there is no other way. Some times you can't turn the other check, use rubber bullets, or talk it over coffee. This is true when you are dealing with someone who will never give up. Not even if you try to show them your side. And sometimes to make the world better you must. If you don't understand what I mean try reading Watchmen.

Actually, Kill and Murder are 2 totally different things. And the original commandment is, 'Thou shall not Murder'. Study philosophy if you plan on spending your free time on yahoo answers, it'll help keep you from looking like an immature little kiddie.

First, because that's not the commandment. It's "Thou shalt not murder." And murder, as that word was used centuries and millenia ago did not include justifiable killing.

Second, because religious rules are not determinative when it comes to legal issues. And again, the law makes exceptions for certain types of killing. Including action in military service against an designated enemy.

I think all the commandments are ignored by most people most of the time. In the Bible, battles and wars were often happening and, of course, are still happening. Unfortunately, it is necessary in the military, I imagine, to kill in defence of one's country or to combat evil dictatorships or terrorists.

The Old Testament (Talmud) is old Pharisees law. No one can live to that standard and the only one who ever has was The Christ. Which, is why He replaced it with grace and forgiveness.

Try not to quote Old Testament scripture and point fingers. None of us can live up to that old law, and as I understand it The Christ removed it's strictures from our lives. Old Testament is NOT Christianity. It's the law of the Jews

It was murder before kill. I am not a Christian but I have read the bible old and new. Are you Christian? I can understand you getting it wrong if you're not christian. If you read the bible there happens to be a lot of killing going on.
