Proactiv works well for many people, if you are not overly sensitive to benzoyl peroxide. The concentration of benzoyl peroxide is actually less than in many products sold in stores, including the products that claim to be as good or better than Proactiv. A couple of my kids have found Proactiv quite effective without being irritating, but two of my kids turned out to be severely irritated by benzoyl peroxide. If you start with Proactiv (or any over-the-counter program, you have to keep using the program. If you stop, your acne will come back. If you have a really bad case of acne, you might want to see a dermatologist for more potent prescription drugs.

If your acne is really bad visit the dermotologist. Proactiv doesnt really work on bad acne. I've had bad acne since 6 grade, and ive wasted so much money on things that dont work. So i say visit the dermotologist cuz he can prescribe something that works. And remember dont let anything that anyone says about ur acne let you down. Ive let it go through my head and it really ruined my self esteem, So just dont worry about it too much cuz there are people in the world that have worse acne then you.

Treatment Regimen For Moderate Acne
If a large portion of face or any other area get affected with whiteheads, blackheads, pustules and papules, it may be termed as moderate to severely moderate acne. You should preferably consult a dermatologist to treat this kind of acne. If this kind of acne persists, it can cause scars. Scars can be of two types- pockmarks or pits or raised thick tissue. To prevent the formation of scars and to prevent acne getting further inflamed, consult your doctor as soon as such acne appears. Don't let acne grow to severe form so that scars can be prevented.
To treat moderate to severely moderate acne, your doctor may adopt different treatments. One choice may be physical treatment. Your doctor may remove the comedones physically or give blue light to treat acne. This physical treatment may be combined with topical application or oral medication. Oral medication for acne treatment may include use of antibiotics, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents, oral isotretinoin or any other medicine your doctor feels suitable. The choice will depend upon the severity of acne and your skin. Your doctor may also prescribe topical medication that may include antimicrobials, retinoids and OTC medications. Women may be prescribed oral contraceptives to treat acne.
