I was extremely sick when I was first born, so every time I sneezed, my parents would take me to the doctor for a penicillin shot. From high school on, I would get a severe upper respiratory infection at least twice a year. It would keep me in bed for a week.

The last time I had it was ten years ago. I was on six different antibiotics, and nothing would kick it. Out of pure desperation, I tried herbal therapies. I have not been that sick since.

All the antibiotics did was push the infection deeper into my system ... never really cleared it, so it was easy for me to get sick again.

At least 90% of all meds are metabolized by either the liver or the kidneys -- and the meds weaken those organs as they're metabolized. I won't go to a western medicine doctor unless I break something and need a cast. For myself, I've cured blood poisoning, pneumonia, staph and strep (just to name a few) with herbal and homeopathic therapies, Reiki, sound energy, and essential oils.

I got my wisdom teeth out when I was 18, and consequently I was taking 4 different meds to deal with the pain/swelling/risk of infection, etc. The combo of that, and smoking a joint (stupid idea) put me into a full blown manic episode (my first one) that lasted a month and required hospitalization. This was followed by an anti-pysch med and an anti-dep. med (lovely wellbutrin) and I enjoyed a 9-month depression that ended on my 19th b-day, when I decided to throw away the meds. I haven't been on anything since (except for the odd Midol). I've had one more manic episode (followed by almost a year of severe depression) which occurred when I tried to quit smoking using the patch. Now I hope to stave off my illness by avoiding all medication, and using supplements to promote balance. So far, so good.

I know that meds aren't what caused my bipolar disease, but they certainly do trigger it!

Tabitha.

A doctor gave me theophlylline for asthma. It was not a high dose; but it was too much for me. I wound up in the emergency room. I lost 11 pounds in 3 days. I was weak for several months. I never did get 100% of my strength back. Now I cannot drink regular tea or have caffeine.

Back when I was in the army, I used to drink a lot, and the army in all its wisdom thought I was drinking to much, plus I was under age. So they made me see some shrink who told me I was drinking so much because I was depressed. Wow, I had always thought I was drinking because I liked to, but I guess I was wrong, lol. So they put me on some pill called Wellbutrin, and after being on it for about two weeks I ended up having a seizure. They said it was a side effect of only .001 percent of people who take it. I always wondered who that .001 was, I guess that is me, lol. They tried to put me on something else, but I of course declined. And I have lived just fine since. So much for head doctors and all their schooling, lol.

Oh yes. lots of them. Mind you, I've been on over probably 50-100+ meds in my lifetime. I'm 22.

I'm allergic to Benadryl even. o_o

But some of the meds helped me more than they hurt me, like my allergy medications. If not for them I'd be dead by now. So, you have to take the good with the bad.

I was on topomax before for migraines, and it had adverse side effects, i had breakthrough seizures, uncontrollable stuttering, loss of coordination, muscles twitches, and difficulty concentrating.. really made me weird *** person.

I recommend to everyone u read ALL side effects as mine were extremely rare, but they still would keep some people on the drug, even with all my symptoms!!! Bad thing was the pill worked and kept my migraines away.. yah with even worse results for the rest of my body!!

OK, you may know herbs really well. I don't so I won't say anything stupid to expose my ignorance. Since you don't know western medicine, you have no idea how stupid you just sounded with the above quote.

Yeah one time I got medicine from my doctor which was to help my soar throat, but I was allergic to it. My face just started to itch, (worse than chicken pops) and I just wanted to rip my face off. True story.

I haven't ever been harmed but my Aunt was killed a few years ago in the hospital. They over dosed her on morphine.
