I am taking Children's Literature this semester and we have to read 75 children's books and do a sample activity with each book. Can you please give me some names of books that you or your class has really enjoyed over the past few years. I will need books that are from the range of Pre-K through the 5th grade. Thanks!

Sorry, I didn't mean to exclude everyone but teachers. If you or your child have read a really good children's book please let me know. Thanks!

75 books? Dr. Seuss should just about cover it!!
I always like the theme of survival. I liked "Call It Courage", "My Side of the Mountain", "Island of the Blue Dolphins", "The Cay" and "Hatchet" as a grouping. This is for about 4th to 6th grades.
I just love reading books written for the 4th to 9th grade level. They usually have 100 to 200 pages. I can almost always finish them in a week to ten days. (kidding) The students typically need two weeks to a month to finish a book (not kidding) at 10 to 15 pages a day.
75 books? One semester? Get off the computer and start reading!!! We don't expect to hear from you again until Winter Break. Let us know how it goes.

The Battle of the Books competition always has a nice compilation each year -- usually some from the classics and some fresh voices.
The list starts at kindergarten level and is sorted by grade level. See link below...

Frankenwieler(My favorite), and great activity books Frindle and The Landry News(same authors). You can guess the endings on both of thoughs.

My 10th graders loved Scribbleville by Peter Holwitz. (They were going to have to write their own children's books related to prejudice, and this was the favorite example one they saw).
I was also a huge fan of Serendipity books by Stephen Cosgrove. Creole and Leo the Lop were my favorites as a child.
I also just got several international books including the following:
Isla (Picture Puffins)
Day of Ahmed's Secret
The Road to Mumbai
The Singing Man: Adapted from a West African Folktale
The Color of Home
In My Family/En Mi Familia
A Pair of Red Clogs

Check out the Newberry Award winning titles on the following web page. This award is given to children's literature. It's been in existence since the 1920s. The Caldecott Award is another one that is a good criteria for picking a children's book. It is awarded to picture books

The Boxcar Children series by Gertrude Chandler Warner, Junie B. Jones series by Barbara Park, anything by Beverly Cleary, Goosebumps by R.L. Stein. These were all my daughter's favorites when she was younger.
This website is full of children's books reviews, hope it helps!
