we have a lot of property, so we generally only have to feed in the winter when we move the horses from pasture to stall. We feed 2nd cutting alfalfa that we have started putting in now @ around $250.00 a ton for 75 & 100 lb. three wire bales. If the horses are not being worked regularly in the winter we give less hot feed, usually Timothy/Rye, grass/light clover, etc. at around $7.50 a bale. It all depends, I would think you are about average except the round bales. We do not feed them, but I have sen them go for $25 around here. Quality?? I don't know.

California: adv of $8 to $12 for a square bale of around 90-120 pound bales. Depends which farm you get it from.
The hay we got this time at $8 a bale is mix with grass and horses hate grass hay. Plus, not nutrition either.

I live in North Central Texas and it is very costly around me round bales are going for $80-$110.00 for good coastal hay.We still had some hay from last year and didn't get much this year. Alot of people are having to sell most of their cows or all of they. Good luck in your search.
