like contemporaries like Eric Clapton & Carlos Santana or would he be resting on his laurels like say Eddie Van Halen?

I can fantasize him making collaboration CDs like Carlos Santana did and exploring his fusion jazz side or a pure blues side.

Hedrix had a stage presence taylor made for loud and beautiful blues rock... he wouldn't be the same playing jazz fusion. I have no doubt he'd still be taking blues rock and guitar playing (and recording) to a level nobodys been to.

Also, if you want Hendrix's pure blues side, there's an album called "Blues" that's exactly that... all of Jimi's pure blues recordings.

You really shouldn't put Hendrix in the same class as geniuses like Clapton or Santana. So they all play the same instrument? Big deal. It's like comparing Bach and Liberace because they both played keyboard. Hendrix was a drug fueled glam show guitarist with the good taste to draw heavily on the blues. Clapton and Santana have both shown creative genius through lifetimes spent exploring many different musical influences. There is no evidence suggesting that Hendrix would have done or could have done the same thing. If Hendrix would have lived I think he would be no more than a Frampton size blip on the rock radar. Like many others who have had the good sense to die young his legend has overgrown his talent.

Hendrix would've probably expanded on the whole "Band of Gypsies" idea. He was looking for something new. I think that he would've continued to make new and exciting music as opposed to playing the Casino circuit so the suits can hear "Purple Haze" all the time (no offense to Purple Haze).

No, he would have a following like other famous guitarists, but I dont imagine he could teach Van Halen, Steve Vai etc etc any new tricks.
