Now I have a dilemma here, I went to the doc today and they said I have to have testosterone injection and that the injections will make me starel (that do not bother me). After saying that they said they could also give me another hormone that will help me, be able to still get women pregnant. Now originally I would not want kids (I have a genetic defect and believe those with defects should not have kids) but the doc said that if I go in to politics then kids would be a good thing to add. He also said that if I want a wife (and I do) then I would need to give her children. So here comes my question, should I get the added hormone and make it so I can still have kids?

Now I will say here that if I did have kids I would take care of them and love them dearly but because of my genetic defect, and my beliefs about not spreading defects I would rather not have them.
In addition, if you must know the defect is minor (but it cost a hell of a lot of money to fix {but I was worth it :) })

Well look at it this way...
If you don't get the additional hormone you will have no choice.
If you do get the additional hormone, you can still choose to not have children via birth control, etc... but at least you will have the choice.

firstly u can`t just have kids because it would look good if u went into politics, thats no reason. u would`nt nescesserily need to give anyone children, not all women want kids, but it may be worth considering the 2nd injection, u might change ur mind in future when u find the love of ur life & the 2 of u might want minni me`s around, and then there`s adoption & other things to consider 2. think about it, not just for now but for the future.
hope u make the right choice 4 u.

I think perhaps you might want to consider seeing a doctor who doesn't live in the 1920's. Not all women want children - just for the record.

Why not tackle this when you do find that special someone?

Why can't people with genetic defects have children?

ALSO, children aren't accessories - your doctor is saying you should have them if you go into politics.

Good luck with this one.

First of all, one does not have kids because it will make them look better for political reason. Kids are a lot of work. They need your love and attention. If you have a genetic defect, you really have to consider if that is fair to the child. An odopted child is just as rewarding and you wouldn't have to worry about your genetic defect.

You can give a bunch of sperm to a sperm bank and have them save your sperm through cryopreservation- then your wife can get artificially inseminated (they sometimes allow the husband or boyfriend to do the procedure to his wife/girlfriend) and you can still have kids without having to have the added hormone. They could also do in vitro fertilization with your sperm and do genetic testing to see which embryos have the genetic defect, if it is a recessive trait, and you could screen the embryos and only take the ones that don't have the genetic trait you don't like.

Crazy dilemma! Anyway I think that a happy medium might be achieved here. Adopt. That way you do not have to spread your genetic defect. You and your future wife can have a family. And potential voters will see you as a hero for adopting a child! TA-DA!

noadays women are more career oriented than family oriented, which is not necessarily a bad thing. i myself have a career but i wanted to experience motherhood at least once myself and am forever glad i did. you may be able to find a woman who does not want children, i know there are some out there. any defect that can be corrected to help make a person's life better, than i'm all for it.

U should not have kids to further ur career, that is really horrible. It is good to be concerned about genetic defects, it shows responsibility, and i think ur constituents would prefer that to just having kids so they will vote for u. Not all woman want kids, so ur doctor is stupid if he believes u have to give ur wife children!

you could always adopt kids... but somehow it seems like having kids just to "look good in politics" isnt the right way to go...

as for not spreading defects, the human gene pool is EXTREMELY limited as it is... you never know what kind of "defects" could be needed in the future generations...

but adoption seems like a good idea, because of your beliefs and your impending sterility...

I wouldn't have kids just so that it would look good for your political image. There are lots of politicians who campaign without their children, whether they have kids or not. i think you should stick to your beliefs and find a wife who wouldn't mind not having kids (not all wives, or women for that matter, NEED kids - there are just as many women as there are men who don't like kids!).

If you really wanted a kid to take care of and love, that should be the reason you have a kid - not so that it would look good for your political image. If you really want a kid to love, adopt!
