There are some movies of early German cinematography, as early as '20es, called 'Nosferatu' and 'Metropolis'.
Also, you've got '2001: a space oddysey' from the '60ies.
'Nosferatu' is actually the Dracula story, only they didn't get the authorisation from Bram's Stokers widdow to make the film, so they changed the title and the main characters name to 'count Warlock'. Very good, artistic horror.
'Metropolis' is the first SF movie ever to come out. The effects are great for that time, but that is all I could say about that one, because I've never seen the whole film, only parts. Still, you can see it's great.
You probably know about the 'Oddysey'...

I'll second "Some Like it Hot," which is probably the best comedy ever made.

Marilyn Monroe was luminous, Jack Lemmon was hilarious, Tony Curtis gave a suprisingly funny performance.

The first half-hour is a bit slow, but once "Daphne" and "Josephine" hit Florida, the laughs never stop.

In his prime, Billy Wilder was the best filmmaker who ever lived, expertly handling screwball comedy, high drama and everything in between.

"The Sound Of Music" The true story of the Von Trapp family. Courage, music, loyalty, love, family, loss, and all while trying to flee the Nazis!

The other movies mentioned were entertaining, but true to life prevails, classicly. Heros and heroines always do. And in cinemascope, panavision, and techicolor!
