I have a problem, I am not humble at all, I don't lower myself for anyone, Don't get me wrong, I'm a nice guy, but when someone tries to control me, I don't take it, no matter if they are richer, better looking, or socially in better state, I'm a Mexican-American, and all Mexicans have a sense of pride, and thats how I was raised, but it has brought me alot of problems and fights, what should I do?

EDIT: I think I am also arrogant, once in 10th grade I had like 4 of my enemies sitting right by where I sat, normally someone would avoid that situation, but I just went there with my head high, I was determined not to show weakness.

EDIT 2: You are all right, but I just can't do it, everytime someone challenges me to fight, even if I'm outnumbered, I never give up, I hate that, but I can't stop myself.

Being proud of yourself should include control over yourself. Keep your pride showing but don't talk about it. Don't get upset with someone who tries to control you. Tell them in an assertive voice that you would like to work with them but that you are not comfortable with being told what to do all of the time. We all get told what to do even as adults in some parts of our lives so you need to resign yourself to that and not get upset about it. It is life. If you are proud of yourself and your family then you should never fight. Fighting brings no respect to your family and could cause lots of pain if you were killed over some misunderstanding. You may think someone is trying to control you when they are just telling you how a certain thing is done or how to do something. Think first and don't get mad. You will be wiser and go further in life if you leave the anger behind now!'WHAT/WHO MAKES YOU ANGRY - CONTROLS YOU!" Best wishes!

You already know the answer, you just dont want to do it. Being humble does not make you LOWER than anyone. It actually takes a bigger man to be humble and meek than to stand up and be beligerant or offensive. Where do you think America would be today if all the men and women in the Armed Forces were prideful and not willing to do for others? to give their lives for me, you... Better question... where would we be if no one was willing to do for others? I think about where would I be if Jesus was too proud to be treated like He was and hung on a cross for me? I would be in deep.....trouble!! Dont think you are less a man to be humble. Think you are a bigger man because you can share feelings, put others first, show something touches you. I do not mean let people hurt you or walk over you, just dont try and ONE_UP everyone. Looks, society, or money has nothing to do with it... its all in the heart. What's in yours?? Good luck!!! Hey...when you are humble and looking down sometime, you find the lost money..!!! HEY>>>I never claimed to be a comic!!! No, dont hang your head, hold it up, just be willing to bend your neck a little.

There's a difference between standing up for yourself and false pride. Just as there is a difference between sincere humility and being a doormat. You have to learn what's really important in your life and what isn't. Getting in a fight because someone insults you is false pride - walk away. If you react and fight, you're just doing what they wanted anyway. Fighting should be a last resort in defense. Words are never a justification.

machismo is built into the Mexican male. i don't know how many times i've told someone here to get a little back bone... the same applies here. in your case it would be more macho to know when is NOT a good time to beat your chest like tarzan. for you backing off would be much more courageous than wading in and getting a black eye. which do you want to be? a man or a mouse?

You should have pride but not too much. It might bite you in the behind later. Remember that if you hurt someone because of your pride, when you really need them they might turn their back on you and that's going to hurt you

whilst whites label themselves with white satisfaction they wanna get a rope and beat-up minorities and gays. That mentality keeps progressing with somewhat alcohol. it somewhat is why its no longer politically suitable for "whites in elementary terms" or "white satisfaction" to have a congregation. The KKK are the only extremist team who presently does that. BTW i'm a million/2 white.

when something is not working well, then adapt, modify, change, whatever it takes to make your life better, to have quality relationships... Jesus was humble and he changed the world, so a little humility can make you greater, not smaller.
