The distance from R to T is 64 units.
The distance from R to S to T is 3x+1 + 2x-2

so 3x+1+2x-2 =64
so 5x-1 =64
so 5x = 65
so x = 13

3x+1 =RS =40
2x-2 = ST = 24

R___S___T

RT = 64
RS + ST = RT

(3x+1)+(2x-2)=64 *Add all like terms on left side of equation.
=(5x-1)=64 *Start to isolate the variable by adding the 1 on both sides of the equation.
=(5x)=65 *Isolate the variable by dividing the 5.
=(x)=13 *Answer is 13.
