Well, I too have always wondered the same thing so this is what I say,
Okay the egg would need a Chicken to help hatch it right?
So I am going to say the Chicken and of course there had to be a Rooster.............Good Luck with some other answers
at least I gave it a shot right?

the chicken came from an egg that was laid by what ever species predated the chicken on the evolutionary scale. but now the chicken wants to be a french fry.

What if they both came together? ....maybe the chicken and the egg existed as chicken and egg simultaneously, just as schroedinger's cat existed, both dead and alive inside his box ...to an outside observer, both chicken and egg were both there until the observer decided to stare ...sometimes, by staring, the chicken/egg combo would collapse into a chicken ...sometimes by staring, the chicken/egg combo would collapse into an egg ..hence the perpetual quantum dilemma of the chicken and the egg

The chicken. Adam and Eve were created in full stature and told to reproduce. The same pattern was used for the animal kingdom - the full stature of creature came first, and then would reproduce after its kind.
