I am one of those people who like a sports team because they play for my state/city. And i really hate people who are not even from the state/city that they root for, or has never even lived their once before.
Shouldn't people in Wisconsin be Packer fans? or shouldn't San Fran people be 49er fans? (So on and so far) I just don't get it!
Im from Minnesota and im a Vikings fan, sure they never won a superbowl but hell with that, im still a fan. You won't believe how many people up here in minnesota like the Falcons just because Mike Vick is fast, or like the Patriots just because they won each of their superbowl by a lonely 3 points. I see no interest in other teams unless you actually live (or use to live) in the state/city they play for. A true sports fan would root for their home team.
Whats your opinion on this?
Note: Don't be rude, i will send a report on you.
Note #2: You fans who are fans just because a team is good makes me sick and aren't real fans at all.

Here in Pittsburgh, we fans are born with a Terrible Towel, not a baby blanket. I've been a Steeler fan since the 50's & believe me, the team has gone thru some really lean times before they got to be one of the best all-time, but I've never even considered rooting for anyone else(unless it was anyone playing against the Cryboys)

Think of fans in states like North Dakota or New Mexico. A fan chooses their favorite based upon other factors than where they reside.
Hell, I was a Miami Dolphin fan before Seattle purchased a team in 1976. Yes, I live in Seattle and I lived through the Ken Behring years (barren years). When I lived in Las Vegas I was a lonely Seahawk fan. I am proud when people from other states support the Seahawks and call themselves fans.
I also hate jump on the band wagon fans that only support their team if they are winning.

Well I'm from San Antonio and we dont have a football team here. I've been a Houston Texans fan from the start of there franchise. So i'm not a bandwagon fan, last year was horrible but I still wore my jerseys and shirts proudly. But when my team is not playing (which they still havent seen the post season, but this year might be the year they do) I go for the team I want to see win.

Maybe u grew up with that team. Like if u grew up in Dallas, but now live New York, u can still be a 'Boys fan, even thoughu live in New York. Also, I know a lot of people who are fans because they had dynasties. Like the Cowboys in the 90's or even the Pats this decade.

Why???
I live in Houston...why should I root for a team that messes everything up why should I root for a team I know is good to suck
and I'm going to TAMU but I for sure won't root for the Aggies
I mean I root for the Rockets but thats becuse they have players I enjoy watchin and a system I enjoy watching
its like.... I'ma Reggie bush fan which would have been perfect if he came to houston but they blew it just like they always do so I rather watch Reggie. he is an exciting player that is fun to watch
(it does kind of make me feel akward calling myself a fan cuz I don't ever relate where I live with who I root for)
and no I don't just root for the team thats gonna win I pick my teams before the season starts and stick with them threw out

Well I feel there could be several reasons. People may have grew up in a different city and have moved. Or maybe one of there family members plays for that particular team. I think there could be so many reasons why people choose to follow teams that aren't in there city. I to don't like when people "jump on the band wagon", but it is what it is.

I am a true STEELERS fan, always have been and always will be. I've lived in Pittsburgh my whole life and if I ever move anywhere I will STILL be a STEELERS fan. I would not start to like a team just because I live in that city.

I'm like you in that I support my local teams. However, if ownership has proven to me that they are not running the team well, then I no longer support them. I will always love the Flyers and Eagles, but the Phillies and Sixers could relocate and I won't blink an eye. As for soccer, I chose DC United since they are geographically closer to where I live than RBNY.

I am with Kamikaze on the Seattle end of things. I was born and raised an Eagles fan and, to some extent, I still am. But, if push comes to shove, I'm a 'Hawx fan first and foremost.
