Search for a reputable jeweler before you take anything anywhere. Look for the American Gem Society (AGS) logo on a store.
Find out if the jeweler does the work on site or sends it out (sending it out leaves room for lost pieces). Find out a firm estimate before you do any work. Platinum works different than gold or silver, so make sure the jeweler has experience.
I worked in the jewelry business for seven years... it's sometimes hard to do a job for someone because of the ring's strength/integrity. A good jeweler will try to create your design while maintaining the integrity of the ring.

Of course you can. Thats actually better because than you can make up your own setting and could look really unique. My aunt actually did the same thing with her engagement ring and her wedding ring. She took out the diamonds from each and made a whole different ring when she got divorced. Tradgic but strangly poetic. I dont know.

Caseina doll,
Do me a favour - forget all this customising.
Go out and find yourself a nice young man who can afford to buy you nice presents. Nice rings and diamond bracelets.
Customise?
Buy right - who needs customising?

Find a jeweler who knows how to work with platinum and it won't be a problem. (Platinum doesn't work like gold or silver....)
