I have a 1998 chev.1500 ext.cab truck and need to know if a topper from a 1996 chev.1500 ext.cab will fit on mine? also what other years (chev 1500 ext.cab trucks will same topper fit on?) The size of truck beds change but not every year. I don't want to spend money for a new topper to fit my 1998 chev. 1500 ext.cab since I will be trading in near future and it most likely will not fit on new truck.

It should. The design did not change at all between the 96 and 98 model years.

Both '96 and '98 trucks are GMT400s. The boxes (so long as they're both short boxes) are interchangeable the same "topper" will fit either.

The GMT800 was introduced in 1999. The GMT900 is coming to the market now, as a 2007 model.

I doubt it, but why don't you just measure the beds?
