Take a glass of water and put a playing card over the top and turn the glass upside down and the card stays there and no water leaks out.

You must first get the card wet. The cohesion of the water forms a seal between the card and the glass.

The air pressure keeps the weight of the water from overcoming the seal between the glass and the card.

Its the suction that the water creates when its against the card. Its simple....
Unless you want to know how to do it...
put a card on the glass, tip it upside down quickly it should work.

In order for the water to get out, air needs to get in. If it can't, then the water remains in place.
