What have you done for me lately?
When you speak to French people, they still have the highest regard for the USA. This political atmosphere has nothing to do with friendships. As each of us compete in a world market, we have to protect and promote our products and services.
In many ways, France has more in common with the USA than the rest of Europe. These areas of common ground will always bind us together in a long lasting friendship. It makes no real difference on the flavors of the few issues that make us have a difference in opinion.

It's the current ideology difference. The U.S. is a capitalistic country, France leans tword socialism. When I visited Europe a few years ago, the people in France that I delt with were aloof if not down right rude when they found out we were Americans. The rest of Europe that I was in the folks were pretty cool. People who believe in a socialistic way of life tend to look at Americans as not as sophisticated or intellegent as they are. We are a bunch of money grubbing cowboys lol

Well, it seems as though the French have a history of turning and running when they should stand and fight.
Actually, John Adams secured a loan from the Dutch that allowed us to purchase extremely needed supplies that in turn allowed us to defeat the British. Not that the French didn't have a hand in our winning.

France and the US do get along. They are traditionally allies. However, both recognizes each is a soveriegn nation, and just because one does something the other doesn't have to. If it came down to it, though, they'd watch out for each other.

France was the most powerful nation in the 17th century. The US is the most powerful nation now. It hurts them to know that "les Anglo-Saxons" have won out.
Or it could be that we don't get along because the French haven't discovered deodorant.
