A friend of mine is looking to get out of teaching after a twenty year successful run teaching junior high (he's almost burned out). What realistic career options does he have outside the classroom?

There are all sorts of educational consultants. He could go in as a trainer in the private sector. He could go into higher education or administration. He could work for a place that sells educational materials like Harcourt or McGraw-Hill. Deoending on what his content area is could also open new avenues.

Maybe he could research what it would take to start a charter school. If he's leaving because of burn out then he could take is frustrations and run a school the way he thinks it should be run.
Tell him to visit the department of education website for his state and see if there's a charter school link. Arizona has one.
