Tore the back of my grandmothers house off when I was visiting. We were hidden in a closet on the other side of the house. Don't want to be any closer than that.

I am right in the middle of Tornado Alley! We had one while I was at work. I work in a hospital, and it really really sucked. All of the hospital workers had to move all of the patients into the hallway, and close every door- we were really lucky that no serious damage was done.
Then we had another while I was away at college last semester, and that was super scary because it was just like 300 students crammed into this storm shelter; there was a little roof damage, but basically everything was still in place.
THEN last year when my parents were out of town, and I was home for a weekend, I woke up one morning and found that everybody's huge privacy fences were gone, and my neighbor's workshop was totally trashed- apparently I slept through that tornado.

i have been in one and another hit less than 2 miles from my home. The one i was in my neighbor had a car go through there house. luckily the only damage was to our roof, and we had a matress from the neighbors stuck in a tree.
This is what NOAA said about it.
THE SECOND TORNADO WAS SEVERAL MILES TO THE NORTHEAST OF THE FIRST
ONE. IT TOUCHED DOWN AROUND 942 PM...8.8 MILES SOUTHEAST OF
FESTUS...ON INTERSTATE 55 BREAKING OFF SEVERAL TREE TOPS...THEN HIT A
SMALL NEW SUBDIVISION ON THE EAST SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY...DESTROYING
THREE HOMES...BEFORE CROSSING U.S. 61. FROM THERE IT TRAVELED TO THE
NORTHEAST DESTROYING ANOTHER HOME. ONE OCCUPANT IN THIS HOME
SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES. BEYOND THAT...SEVERAL HOMES AND
OUTBUILDINGS SUSTAINED MINOR TO MODERATE DAMAGE. AS IT APPROACHED THE
RIVER...THE TORNADO BLEW DOWN TWO HIGH TENSION TOWERS AS IT WENT OVER
THE BLUFFS ON THE MISSOURI SIDE...BRIEFLY LIFTING...THEN CAME BACK
DOWN ON THE ILLINOIS SIDE OF THE RIVER...3.2 MILES SOUTHWEST OF
FULTS. IT DESTROYED TWO OUTBUILDINGS AS WELL AS NUMEROUS TREES. THE
TORNADO LIFTED AND DISSIPATED 1.6 MILES WEST NORTHWEST OF FULTS
AROUND 950 PM. THE KNOWN DAMAGE TRACK WAS 4.8 MILES LONG WITH THE
TORNADO REACHING A MAXIMUM DAMAGE WIDTH OF 200 YARDS AND A F3
RATING.
