I share AquaSharp's sentiments.... Why ask if you know the answer?

1) soak in 50% ethanol
2) light it up

It will look like the paper burns, but actually, it's just the alcohol burning. The paper doesn't burn because the water (in the 50% ethanol solution) cools it.

I agree with kris, paper can't burn without damage; however, if you mean "heat up" without damage there are many more ways than just friction.

Burning is oxidation in some degree and oxidized paper is damaged paper.

If the paper burns, it will be damaged. But if it is something on the paper that is burning, rather than the paper itself, then it's possible the something will burn away and leave tha paper unharmed.
