This pisses me off, ok, yeah, I'm italian, and my friends ( it was funny at first) but they keep calling me a wop, which is a really bad thing to call someone who's italian, its like calling a mexican a ******* or a beaner ( not trying to offend anyone) What should i do? Would you be angry? Am i getting worked up over nothing?

Well I'm also SICK of people assuming that all italians are loud and in some way are connected with the mophia, or my family is like the Sapranos....It's irritating!!!

I'm rarely ever called a wop, but I constantly meet people who, as soon as they find out I'm Italian, are like "OMG! I hate Italians! They're so cocky and are all *******...etc." They don't even have actual reasons when I ask, and it offends me. I guess it's just the way we're perceived on TV or in sports (ahem - soccer), and then they all go generalizing about each one of us.
Maybe you should just explain how it was sort of a joke and playful at first, but now it's just getting to be too much. You have a name, don't you? Just like any one of them.

It's your friends that are idiots. WOP stand for With Out Papers and can only apply to direct Italian immigrants.
They shoud gall you a Dago or a Guinea Goomba Greaseball or something

My Italian-American friends laughed at being "Wops". When you can laugh at yourself, these kinds of words will have no power over you.

Try to ignore it. Go along with it, and everyone will get bored of calling you a Wop, in time.
Or, say that it bothers you, loud and clear!
Anyway, you shouldn't socialise too much with people that find this amusing...

Being With Out Papers was fairly inclusive with all types of immigrants in all the ports across the world. I fail to see any relationship as intelligent conversation worth consideration.

Yeah it sucks, i used to always get that. I took it more as flattery, that they were jealous of me being Italian. After all, we are the best! lol.. No, but seriously, dont get too worked up over it. I would just call them a derogatory name back for whatever ethnicity they are, thats what i always did.

are you awart that WOP stands for " without papers " started at Ellis Island when italian imigrants would come to America and they didn't have any papers with them, the immigration agents would use the abbrevation W O P.

I think you need to express your feelings to your friends. They are likely still calling you that because you lauged at first. Perhaps if you tell them how you feel about it now, they'll ease up. If they dont - it's time for you to find some new and nicer friends!

Are you actually from italy? Or do you mean that, somewhere along the line, one of your ancestors came from italy? If that's the case, your friends are idiots.
But in either case, your friends are also jerks; you should explain to them that their words upset you. If they don't stop, then you'd best find new friends.
