A circus is usually under a tent or in a covered arena and has mostly animal acts as well as acrobatic acts. Barnam and Baily Circus is the most famous.

A carnival is a traveling event. They move from town to town. Carnivals mainly have rides as well as "games of chance" where you can win stuffed animals, etc.

Each state has it's own state fair where people can enter things like paintings, food, etc to be judged and they can win ribbons. State fairs also have lots of food booths, lots of vendors, an area with rides, and many exhibits. At the California state fair each county enters an exhibit that represents their county.

A circus is a traveling attraction, with the main focus on the events. Things like acrobats, animal shows, etc.

A carnival is also a traveling deal, but paying closer attention to the rides and midway. You can often times buy a black velvet Elvis poster for more than it's worth at one of these.

A state fair is an event which is put on by the state, almost always in the same place. It is usually a really big carnival, with rides, games, and food stalls. However, people can take their livestock to the fair to be put on show and judged against others in the state. It is essentially for bragging rights, as there is very rarely a prize associated with this, other than a ribbon (blue, green, and red, if my 4H memories are to be trusted). Livestock is not the only thing on display though, as often times there are aging rock stars playing at the main stage, all the best hits of 20 years ago!

a carnival is mostly rides, a circus is mostly animals, and a state fair is the one with the animal and baking contests, as well as who can grow the biggest pumpkim squash or some other funky vegatable that no one is ever willing to eat.

Raven, are you so provincial that you really don't know the difference between farmers and red necks???

I can tell you the average farmer today is much better educated than you are. There are cows who listen to classical music. Tell me about your favorite music...
