I want a program that I can use to play karaoke, i.e. a program that I can play video (VCD or DVD) with my computer.

i am not sure but i think you need I microphone plugged into your computer

First off, the most popular karaoke format is CD+G which is not played with a video player. The downloadable files of this format are known as MP3+G. You can play both of these (CD+G discs and MP3+G files) with the right software. Power CD+G Player Pro is the most popular of these. You will plug your mic into the microphone input of your computer's sound card.
