Did you stop cold turkey? It's REALLY a bad idea to quit all at once as you can become painfully engorged and then that can lead to plugged ducts, mastitis and even sometimes breast abcess. It's better to wean gradually over the course of at least a couple of weeks. Drop one feeding every 5 days or so and you won't be so uncomfortable and it will be gentler for baby.

Go stand under a hot shower and let yourself leak some or hand express/pump enough to get comfortable. You can take ibuprofen for the discomfort. Cold compresses will help as well. (Bags of frozen peas work great.) And put cabbage leaves in your bra.

They will only be engorged for a couple of days, and they'll lessen greatly after that. However, even after stopping nursing, I still produce small amounts of milk even a year and more later. Some women dry up completely, some not so completely, but it won't be engorged or painful like it is now. Just watch for mastitis in the next few days, and if you have a fever, red areas or really tender spots, call your doc for an antibiotic.

I am assuming you quit cold turkey here. It may take a few weeks. take ibuprofen. Ice compresses. I'd be looking for signs of mastitis and plugged ducts,. The best thing to do is the cabbage leaf treatment. Leaves in the bra for 30 minutes. Do it 6 times a day to start and see what happens. There is an enzyme in the cabbage that dries up the milk.

Ouch! I remember that painful time. It took me about two weeks to dry out completely. I kept on putting ice packs on my boobs to ease the throbbing and refused to express the milk b/c then it would always come back. Good luck!

A week or two. In the meantime, try putting cabbage leaves in your bra to help with the pain. Seriously, it works wonders.
