My picture always turns out horrible, and it's my last school picture. I'm in 8th grade, short, with long black hair, black eyes, and light brown skin (and glasses if that makes a difference). I'm an amateur at make-up and hair, (my family isn't all that into make-up and I mostly leave my hair down) but I really want to look good... Can you please help me?

Go to the mall and ask for a free make-over, there are places that will show you how to put your make-up on to best flatter your features.

Hi there!

While, I'd like to first mention that you've got to love yourself no matter how you look, but you probably already know that, right?

I myself tend to take either FANTASTIC or HORRIBLE pictures. I have sort of a crappy complextion and squinty eyes and blah blah.

Here's some advice, friend. First, look at your last year's picture and try to figure out what was really "wrong" with it. Bad lighting? Funny lipstick shade? Maybe it was the way you tilted your head?

Now, go to a mirror and smile in the way that is most comfortable and realistic. Little things really make a difference when you are smiling for a picture. If your face is round at all, you can stretch your neck foward a little bit to hide a double chin(things like that, you know?) You can try cocky, funny, sincere smiles-just see what you got!

Make up. Number one rule, don't overdo it, you'll look silly. You want to go a little heavier than normal, but the key point is to apply your lipstick and eye shadow close to the time the picture is taken.

Get online and look at different make up techniques for your skin tone! I don't have any good links to give you, but there's TONS of info out there.

The color of your blouse is very important and must work with how you do your make up. Bright blues, greens, yellows and reds look LOVELY with a light brown skin tone.

Last thing, get your hair done girl!

Good luck, ma'am. I'm sure you'll be beautiful!

All the best, Cree

Ok hun! This is what I do. First talk to your parents about how much money you can have ( tell them this is your last picture. ) Then go to the mall and try Dillards. They have a Clinque stand and you can get your make up and stuff done. Then go to the salon and get your hair done. Try sideswept bangs! So cute and IN! Then go to Aeropostale. It is cheapish and has great classy yet fun clothing! Go with a polo over a cami and unbutton the polo all the way so you can see the cami. Make sure the cami matches the little butterfly in the corner of the polo. Then that all should cost about 30-50 bucks! Plus it will get you a great PIC!

The best thing to do to learn how to apply make up (especially if your Mum isn't any good at it) is go to a make up counter at a department store and explain that you want to start wearing a little bit of make up but need someone to show you how to do it and what colours suit you best.
At your age, you need very, very little. Pick a counter that has young girls working at it too, not some middle age women who will be a bit more hip.
Or does one of your friends have a nice older sister who could help you?

Choose hair styles that goes naturally with your hair type and lasts a while between cutting so that it is easy to maintain and does not require a lot of styling products.

A BEAUTIFUL FACE STARTS WITH BEAUTIFUL SKIN. No matter how beautiful your Makeup looks , blemished skin detracts from it attracting unwanted attention to your skin. Using a Skin Care Kit (CLEANSER, TONER , MOISTURIZER and a MASQUE) created for your skin type will help you attain and maintain beautiful healthy glowing skin.

Below are 5 Steps to applying Makeup. For the best possible results you should apply your Makeup after you have have used a CLEANSER, TONER and MOISTURIZER. A Masque should be used at least once weekly for deep cleaning.

STEP 1: FOUNDATION: After CLEANSING, TONING and MOISTURIZING your face apply a small amount of foundation to the tip of your index finger, dot on forehead, nose, cheeks and chin then blend in an upward and outward motion without leaving a line. Be sure to apply foundation over your eyelids and blend without leaving a line. Glance in the mirror to ensure there's no line. You can use a concealer to cover imperfections such as blemishes and dark spots. You can use our NATU-CLEAR to clear up your skin.

STEP 2: TRANSLUCENT POWDER: Using a Powder Brush apply Translucent Powder in a downward motion for a smooth finish. Translucent Powder helps eye makeup and blush to go on smoother and blend better. It also keeps your face looking fresh and your Makeup will last longer. Model is wearing our Medium Translucent Powder . $12.50. Click here to order it.

STEP 3 EYE MAKEUP: Starting at your lash line, apply your Base Color (A) first, then apply your crease color in the crease area (B). Apply your Highlight Color in the highlight color area, (C) below the brow bone. Finally, blend the colors with a cotton ball or your fingertip to remove any obvious line. If the colors are too bright tone them down with a little Translucent Powder then apply your Mascara, and dust your entire face downward with Translucent Powder. See our Eye Makeup Link below.

STEP 4 BLUSH: Your Blush should go on the apples of your cheeks to radiate when you smile. It should go no closer to your nose, but directly beneath the iris of your eye; below nostril-level and into your temple hairline. A good Blush Brush that's tapered for precise placement, is a must.

STEP 5 LIPSTICKS: Define the outline of your lips with a professional lip brush or lip liner pencil that closely matches the color of your lipstick. Then apply your lipstick and blend the liner with a lip brush. Start from the center working outwards as indicated here.

>>> Feel good, feel pretty and that's just what the world will see. If you feel ugly, that's what the people will see. Try to look as good as you can. There are ways to live in beauty without being obsessive about it.

At least twice a day, set aside five minutes to recheck your make-up, hair, posture and clothing. No matter how impeccably you started out your day, a touch is both necessary and warranted. Take some deep breaths to renew and restore your appearance.

This is almost what I go through and what I have experienced. My photographer for my first passport photo told me the reason I do not photograph well is I do not feel comfortable I tense up. The objective is to relax and be yourself be natural. One of my best photos is when I sat down in a chair I loved in a park and took a photo because I use to sit in the old elaborate curly cued chair all the time as I thought it was beautiful. I was relaxed and smiling naturally as I liked the chair and it turned out good. I was not made up special or in anything very attractive just some a comfortable summer shirt and shorts. The thing to do is first pick out some clothing and see in front of a mirror if it complements your skin color. I have learned that darker clothing tends to make me look older and at my age that is getting more important to me and lighter clothing makes me look younger but that is my skin color and age possibly. But as I am light skinned the lighter clothing washes me out. I looked at past photos and analyzed this along with looked in mirrors. Look at your face shape pulling back your hair putting it up on your head or other things may enhance your face shape and how you look if you do not desire to cut your hair. Try seeing if you like the way you look better without glasses or with them on. No one said you had to take a photo with your glasses on. I usually take my glasses off for photos as I use them for driving mainly or when I am in a college class not sitting closer to the front of the class. It took me a long long time to get to where I felt comfortable enough to not wear makeup. What I have learned is one of the most attractive things about a person is a very nice natural smile so try to get yourself relaxed and feel happy about life along with your situation because you will find you age better with smile wrinkles than frown wrinkles so you might as well practise the things that make you feel better. Go out take a walk get some fresh air, eat good, do not smoke, do not eat candy in excess or chocolate (my weakness lately), drink adequate water and all these things will help better and more than makeup. But if you use a makeup make sure to understand all you can about makeup and remove it every day very well with a good cleanser and then put on a good moisturizer to help your skin. I rarely wear makeup now and for a woman of 47 years I often get compliments about my looks. At one time I would not leave the house without makeup because I had low self esteem and self confidence because as a young girl I had freckles that I was teased about so for a long time I spent time covering it up with makeup at a teenager. They have faded with age like they came up with years as I got closer to being a teen. What is more important about beauty is I have met many an attractive person that when I got to know them better they looked less attractive to me as they had unattractive personalities. And I have met many a person who was not attractive to me at first but the more I knew their personality the more attractive they became to me. I hope this helps you some like learning this helped me. One of the most beautiful women I knew was not young she was a very pleasant woman who never said an ill word about anyone and was well loved by everyone who knew her. Somewhat ineffective where critism was concerned and necessary but still her lesson is etched in my mind be a nice pleasant good person and you will age better. The old expression is true good women are like good wine they only get better with age. One of the big secrets of models with beautiful skin is drinking eight glasses of clean good water every day and my sister along with a few friends with really good skin adhere to it. do not smoke and do not drink especially in excess as it is bad for the skin hair and health.
