I think it very much depends upon the Straight guys or girls outlook and understanding and their own views about sexuality. Many people are unjustifiably resentful of Gay people because they make them uncomfortable, maybe because they are afraid they will come-on to them? They don't understand that people are people and each has their own differences. Problem is though that many Gay people also stereotype others that are not Gay believing that they are hostile or will be hostile to the information that you are Gay. Everyone makes assumptions and often makes their decisions not on how another feels but rather on their own thought about how that person would feel which is totally unjust to that individual. The only way you will know is just to honestly talk to that person alone and away from a peer group that might influence their actions. If being Gay is a problem then certainly they would not make the friend you hoped they would. If they consider that friendship to be valid and worth while then they will make adjustments to their own bias or feelings to try and understand and realize that friendship comes first and sensitivities about other things comes second to that. People always have to overcome differences whether or not it be Democrat, Republican, or Libertarian, or Religious or non-Religious. Black or white etc every one has their own biases and problems but also diversity can make for excellent friends just as long as there is honesty and respect. Good luck.

Not only very possible, but add to that thought that many, many people are friends with people (ie friends at school or co-workers) and they have no clue that there friend could be either bi-sexual or gay.
It has happened to my husband - a couple of his old high school football buddies were gay, but didn't let on until recently. One of them had even been married - to a lesbian - and they used each other to be "socially acceptable".
My husband is a real homophobic. It was hysterical. THEN he found out that one of his favorite cousins is also gay.
I had told him for years that he was small-minded and wouldn't always know that someone was gay unless they walked up and smacked him with the news. Ah, but he just "knew". I had a friend that my husband would avoid at all costs because he knew that my friend was gay....and went out drinking with his buddies that were gay that he didn't know about.
Small minded, close minded idiot.

Why shouldn't they get along? As long as the subject is brought up early in the friendship so each person can decide for themselves if they want to be friends or not. My husband has gay friends and I know of a few lesbians and we all get along perfectly well, in fact they are some of the best friends that we have had.

Of course it is possible. The ones that think it isn't possible are usually the str8 guys who mistakenly think every gay man wants them. Of course they usually think that every girl wants them also. Actually, easier to have true friendship with str8 guy since you don't worry about your guy cheating with the str8 guy. The real trouble happens when two gay guys try to be friends, unless they are both mature enough to be friends with benefits. It's great when you have a really crappy day and you can call up one of your friends with benefits and relieve some tension.

I have had two short term gay guy friends, and all my guy friends knew the second one and also were friends with him. Maybe you need to get out more if you think that is 'very impossible'. I also have a friend that is a lesbian. She is cool.

well then, you either don't know any gay/lesbians or you're a homophobe or both.
I'm a lesbian and I have straight female friends, as well as gay/straight male friends.
and I have gay male friends who have straight male friends, too.
all VERY possible, and why would the gay guy be pronounced dead? are you a basher, too?

I don't agree on the gay guy - straight guy statement, I have a really close gay friend, however he also has a really good straight guy as a close friend. It all depends on the individuals.

No it's not impossible, I've got two straight female best friends, we've been best friends for years. I've never doubted their trust or faith in me, and they've never acted weird or treated me different, like I was going to come on to them.
Don't presume to make a judgment you know little about, there are plenty of gay/straight friendships-both mail and female, so what's your point?

That's just not true at all. I'm gay and I have a lot of straight friends. You need some socialization training.
