Hi There,
Range Rovers have never had a very good reliability record, but with a used vehicle it is ALL about it's condition.
A good or bad reliability rating is important, but, when used, it takes a distant backseat to maintenance.
1. has owner kept a detailed maintenance record.
2. YOU MUST have the vehicle checked out. Ther are businesses who do this(some even mobil). Don't do this with every car you see, but if you like what you see and the price is in line with what you want to pay. THEN invest the $100 to 250 to have it completely checked out. I have had good luck using the local Good Year shop, but it varies. The main thing is to get a very complete checkup. Then if it looks good buy the car, if it doesn't then either negotiate a price or smile and walk away.
Consumer Reports has a service/repair/reliability history in thier April issue each year. I really like it because their report is based 100% on survey replies from their members(around 750,000) of what actually went wrong, how they like it etc. So, it's actual life not just someone's guess. I'm glad you're getting your dream car.

Your question has nothing to do with Range Rovers. If you're worry it may be a lemon, take it to a mechanic to look over. It'll cost about $200 to a good checkup.

I perfer Minivans for a family car.

If you want it get it, but I've known Expeditions and Xc90's to be better family cars.
