You are right. Its called the BODMAS rule...where you must multiply or divide before adding or subtracting.

the order of operation is
Bracket
power
multiplication/division
addition subtraction

so 5^2 -(3^3-4*5)
25 -(27-4*5)
25 -(27-20)
25 -(7)
18

The first one is the right one ofcourse!!!....I'll explain why:

25 -(27- 4x5 )
I want you to replace the 5 by an X,

so instead of (27- 4 x 5), we'd have (27 - 4 x X ) = 27 - 4X

now can we substract 4 from 27,and leave the X??!!

NO!,we have to substract the whole thing (4X) from 27.
Get it?.

Well as far as order of operations goes, your right, but i didnt really get where you went with all the 5 squared.

The question is about something called order of operation. That is: do you do the subtraction first or the multiplication?
Without knowing the order and without parentheses, there is no way to tell. You need to ask your teacher to explain "order of operation" to you. She or he will thank you for the question. It is something you need to know.

You are right multiplication always comes before addition or subtraction when given equal position in an equation.

The first answer is correct. You would multiply/divide before you add/subtract.

your right. order of operations would make you do the 4x5 then subtract.
